Araldica is a third-generation, family-operated co-operative based in Piedmont. They work with over 230 Piedmont grower members and produce the high quality Piedmont wines from the most prestigious winegrowing DOC and DOCG regions including Barbera, Gavi, Langhe, Moscato, Barolo, Barbaresco, Monferrato and Roero.
They also make this fizzy new Durello, which is grown on the Veneto's volcanic hillsides of Monti Lessini, between Verona and Vicenza. The name of the grape refers to the small, late-maturing berries (duro means hard. Durello's claim is naturally high acidity; when grown on cool hillside vineyards produce complex, long lived wines to rival Italy's finest sparklers. Production of Durello Spumante is mostly in the small growers, traditionally producing bottle fermented wine with up to 6 years on lees. However the variety is also well suited to the production of fresh, zesty, tank-method wines such as this version aged for 2-3 months on lees.
It's a soft wine, faint orchard fruits dusted with floral talk, hints of honey and a whiff of citrus. Mousse-y and approachable, very light bodied and clean.
